The Spot
Boa Vista offers a diverse and powerful surf landscape, with a mix of beach breaks, reef breaks and point breaks suited for surfers from intermediate to advanced level. The island’s exposed coastline and varied orientation create consistent opportunities to surf quality waves throughout the entire year.
Thanks to its position in the Atlantic, Boa Vista picks up both north and south swells. During the winter months, long-period north swells deliver clean, powerful waves across many of the island’s reefs and points. In the summer and during the rainy season, consistent south swells and Atlantic activity continue to produce reliable surf, ensuring there are always waves to ride for surfers at this level.
One of the most defining features of surfing in Boa Vista is the lack of crowds. Even on the best days, line-ups remain remarkably empty compared to other well-known surf destinations. It’s not uncommon to surf high-quality waves with only a handful of people in the water, allowing for more freedom, more waves and a more authentic surf experience.
The island combines warm water, raw natural surroundings and a wide range of wave types, making it a true surf destination for those looking to explore beyond crowded hotspots. From long, peeling point breaks to faster, more technical reef setups, Boa Vista offers both variety and performance.
For those seeking a more extreme side of the sport, the island also holds potential for big wave surfing when the right conditions align.
